it is from this Jane 1796 I got the idea that the Jane who died in 1786 might be an ancestor.

Margaret, wow, thanks for all the information I can now up date my records. If I'm not being greedy can I ask for one last
confirmation of facts, I have information received from other members trees, which don't match. I have Sarah Hunt born c1789 in Bicester daughter of Thomas Hunt & Sarah Eyres who married Thomas Figg, or was she the daughter of William and Sarah Jackson, their sarah born c 1780 who I have as marrying William Smith, but some have this sarah as marrying Thomas Figg !

JUDITH continued
So the original name was crossed out and Thomas inserted.
I think this is your Samuel, the date is correct for his baptism and also the correct parish, as on his burial in St Andrew Headington 3/1/1873 he is aged 72 yrs so born c 1801
His wife Sophia is buried in St Andrew Headington 27/12/1862 aged 53 yrs
They had married St Andrew Headington 19/2/1829 witnesses John Durham and Mary Girl, and their son Thomas Clarke was baptised 2/12/1829 St Andrew Headington
If this were my tree I should accept that the baptism in Charlton on Otmoor was the correct one, as without a look at the original register there is no other sensible idea. Hope this helps Margaret

Margaret

Margaret Report 24 Mar 2010 08:10

JUDITH
On looking at the Charlton on Otmoor register transcripts, (Murcott did not have it's own register, entries were made on the Charlton on Otmoor Register) which are badly faded, and the original typing done using a rotten machine....
There is a couple Thomas Clarke who married Frances hatwell 13/8/1788 by License. So either they were in a terrible rusth, or one of them did not belong in the Parish.
There are a lot of children baptised to them, barely legible, but by using the Frances at the end of each entry, which was mostly legible, I looked at all children baptised with the mother Frances.
There is an entry which reads
26/4/1801 Clark xxxxx Thomas son of Thomas and Frances

Margaret

Margaret Report 24 Mar 2010 08:07

FROM JUDITH BY EMAILSamuel Clarke married Sophia Durham Headington 1829 all children baptised there. Murcot is listed as his place of birth on teh 1851/1861 census where he is 51,and 58. and Oddington on the 1871 , but on this he is said to be 85 birth given as 1786, the 1841 merely say Oxfordshire, although I have written down that it could be Barton.
Judith needs the baptism of Samuel Clarke c 1803 Murcott.

Hi Margaret

It looks like you are really busy. If you do get time, I would be grateful if you could help me. I seem to have many relations in Piddington years ago. My maiden name is Turvey. I am particularly interested in John Turvey - born 11.4.1865 (my great grandfather) - his father James c1837 who married Charlotte Nicholls. James' father William 1778. I have some dates of birth and death but I wondered if there was anything about their trade or other interesting facts etc? Also, the first person on my tree is William Turvey c1758 - father of William born 1778 above, and married to Susannah Tedder. I wondered if you could trace William's or Susannah's parents at all, so that i can go further back? V grateful for any information. Thank you for your time.
