Margaret, I've been doing a bit of digging and I'd like your opinion of a posibilty on the baseborn son.
I have found a James Lovegrove on the 1841 census for Stepney 10 107/713/9.
James age 31 Tinplate worker NOT born in area
wife Alice age 30 Not born in area
dau Mary Ann 8 Born in area
dau Alice 6 Born in area
dau Harriet 11mths Born in area
all living at Bridge street, stepney/Mile end.
This area would be close to where Robert & Letitia resided much of the time. Also the eldest child could have been named after her grandmother?
Your thoughts would be appreciated

Thank you Margaret, that has given me something to ponder over. The dates take some thinking about but as my g-g-hrandfather originated from Oakham, Rutland there certainly seemed to be a lot of travelling about. I tracked them to the 1861 census and just the two of them were living in east London, so I guess the family had flown the nest. Baseborn son eh? I guess the present generation are going to cause a whole lot more difficullty to history researchers in the distant future!

WILLIAM
I have looked for a baptism in Harpsden for your relative Letitia Lovegrove.
The only one is 26/6/1791 Lett Lovegrove daughter of James and Mary Lovegrove
James Lovegrove had married Mary Webb 17/7/1780 In Harpsden.
The earliest baptism in Harpsden is in 1785, so they are somewhere else for a while.
Also
5/2/1809 James Lovegrove baseborn son of Laetitia Lovegrove baptised in Harpsden.
So I looked on Ancestry, and Letitia gives her age as 46 in 1851 and ten years later 56, and she is older by 5 yrs I think it was than her husband.
So either never told him her true age, and kept the first born son a secret, or you may be able to find him and link them at some time, perhaps she visits....
I think the family originate somewhere else than Harpsden, so get back if you need me to look a bit more.

Hi Margaret, I'm wondering if you could possibly help me find some more details on the origins of my great-great-grandmother. Her name was Leticia/Lettice/Lettie and I believe her name was Lovegrove. The info I have is that she came from Harpsden, Oxon and was born circa 1804. She married my g-g-grandfather, Robert Roe on 27th April 1829 in Bray, which I understand is geographically just over the border in Berkshire. I'd be grateful for anything you could find out.

STEVEN I have looked in the Caversham parish register transcripts all 4 churches, and found nothing mentioned about either Rutherford nor Allen. Sorry not to be more helpful. Perhaps you could try the Post Office Records if your relative worked for them?

Hi Margaret,

You may remember me when I asked you for my great grandmother Gertrude Allen who was a foster few years ago. So her mother was not Mary.

I finally found her baptism record in Ancestry. Her name was Gertrude Rutherford Allen in the record. Her birth of date was 22 Dec 1888. Her biological parents were John and Margaret Allen in Woolwich. However, there is nothing happened to them. Her foster parents were James and Mary Rutherford.

I still could not find her birth certificate. Margaret wrote a letter in 1908 to her from Caversham Post Office where Mary Allen worked there.

Could you please find any thing about her around in Caversham?

Thanks, Steven.
