Margaret,
many thanks for the very interesting information, looking up the census was fine by me, (especially as I spent a whole week once looking for one person and her name both christian and surname spelt differently on all, thank goodness she had other family members) Unfortunately I now live out of the area of Oxfordshire/Berkshire where most of my ancestors were so no access to local records office.
Regards Judith

JUDITH 2/8/1890 Bicester George Cartwright 25 yr bachelor Labourer of St John's Street son of Joseph a labourer Sarah Knowles 23 yrs widow of this parish daughter of Michael a labourer, married by Banns witnesses G. Cartwright, Sarah Ellen Cartwright
Baptism in Bicester of 10/8/1888 Knowles. Elizabeth daughter of Charles and Sarah. Soldier, Windsor. This above is exactly as the transcript reads. Please bear it in mind for a while. I looked for a marriage for Charles Knowles and a Sarah, but there were a few and of course there was no maiden name for Sarah, only her father's christian name, no good for a marriage index record. So I looked in the 1881 census for a Sarah, with a father Michael who had lived in Marsh Gibbon Bucks. Here is the entry I found you will find it 1881 Stratton Audley district 7 living at Pool Farm. Michael Parker a Ploughman born 1834 Marsh Gibbon wife Elizabeth born 1837 Marsh Gibbon children Joseph 1863 Marsh Gibbon Thomas 1865 Marsh Gibbon Sarah 1867 ditto John 1869 ditto Elizabeth 1871 ditto Henry 1873 ditto Louisa 1875 ditto Frederick baptised 9/3/1879 Stratton Audley Sarah Jane baptised 8/8/1880 Stratton Audley Now this is all very straightforward but there is another baptism which may have a bearing on the baptism of Elizabeth Knowles in 1888 daughter of Charles Knowles and Sarah, please look back at it 23/7/1891 Ralph WINDSOR Parker son of Harry William and Blanch Jane. COLONEL . of Caversfield.. so perhaps there is a military joining up of the Parkers and Knowles' I found it interesting. You may now be able to find the marriage of Sarah Parker born 1867 Marsh Gibbon daughter of Michael Parker to Charles Knowles c 1887 they did not marry in Stratton Audley, nor Bicester. Hope you find this as interesting as I did. Sorry if you would have preferred to have done the census lookup yourself, but I got carried away. Margaret

TAMMY WOOTON There is a marriage for a Richard Norgrove in Wooton it is his second marriage his first was to a Rachel, you will probably be able to find this yourself it was not in Glympton nor Wooton. Also I think this Richard Norgrove was a son of William Norgrove and Ann nee Faulkner as there is a large gap between their children born in 1821 to 1826 in Glympton, no sign of any children in Wooton for them, so this one of Richard Norgrove may have been missed off, or Wm may have lost his employment with the Reverend, or moved elsewhere for a time with his employer.... So Richard Norgrove married firstly a Rachel and they had the following children baptised in Wooton
Edward Henry 10/1/1847 son of Richard and Rachel
30/7/1848 Charles son Richard and Rachel 30/11/1851 Emanuel son Richd and Rachel 6/2/1853 Ann dtr Richd and Rachel 30/9/1855 Mary as above 24/1/1858 Richard buried Glympton 30/10/1859 1 yr 10 months 2nd marriage for Richard Norgrove in Wooton 35 yrs a widower labourer of this parish Margaret Taylor 25 yrs spinster of Glympton daughter of Thomas a labourer 3/10/1859
Rachel Norgrove had been buried in Glympton 6/2/1859 aged 30 yrs of Wooton. By the time you have written this up in family group settings it will be more understandable I hope it helps

Hi Margaret I was wondering if you can do a couple of lookups for me?
A marriage for William Norgrove and Anne Faulkner or Fawkner C1815 Woodstock, Oxfordshire.
Deaths for William and Anne Norgrove.
Their son Charles born Glympton 1828? Did he marry twice? Sarah Castle and Jane Weston?
Thank You kindly! Tammy

SUSAN sorry no record of the baptism of John Leary, I think they may have been in the workhouse, so the informant would have been the master of the workhouse as was common. On a tree on Ancestry there is mention of the wife as being a Gypsey, perhaps you could look on one of the specific sites for Gypsey families? I believe many were Roman Catholic, being from Ireland, and European backgrounds.

Could you please look up a Mary Rose and Frederick Leary, they had a son John Leary whose birth was registered at Burford not by them but by a John Bricknell who is stated as being the informer and occupier of house, Dec 8th 1864. Why I wonder did they not register the birth themselves? Can find nothing about them or John until 1901 when John turned up in a census of Chobham Surrey married.
