Hi Margaret
Not sure why but I can't view any of your replies or tree, seems stuck on the first message I posted 7 hours ago which I am sure it more like 2 days. When I replied to you yesterday I did see your reply but its gone again I hope that is will appear now I am sending you another reply
Thanks so much for your help.
But I am starting to wonder if the names have got mixed up william said his father was John not that I can find him with any of them but increasingly it is looking like Joseph and Jane, I have found a Joseph Jane and son Charles 1851, then 1861 Jane widow Charles and John W, funny enough that is the name William give for the christening of 3 of his children I have also found a Joseph with a brother Thomas so it is looking a bit more promising, I just have to link them together, I found Sarah Ann Kirby with her Aunt elizabeth Pritchard nee Kirby.
Thanks again

Margaret Thanks a lot for that, I will keep this information handy as it could tie in, but I think at the moment I will look into the Joseph and Jane Whitton or Whetton, I have found in London christening for some of the children, 1 parent Harry & Lily, 1 parent William and Lily 3 for John William and Lily he married under Harry & on Census down as William also had William and Henry thrown in I know they are the same because I have them in 1891 & 1901 so confusing. But thanks for you help much appreciated.

IRENE best if I give you full details of Fringford, then you can make your own mind up John Kirby born c 1770 Fritwell on 1851 census, at marriage from Charlton on Otmoor he married in Beckley 16/1/1797 Ann Coleman born c 1781 probably in Beckley
John Kirby was buried 5/12/1855 aged 85 yrs in Fringford Ann Kirby was buried 13/8/1850 aged 79 yrs in Fringford
You can find John Kirby c 1770 on the 1851 census with his widowed son John Kirby and all John junior's children living with them Both John and John Kirby are Blacksmiths.
John junior Kirby was born according to the 1851 census in Croughton Northamptonshire about 1800 he married in Fringford 10/11/1827 Anne Franklin John junior Kirby was buried in Fringford 24/5/1855 aged 55 yrs his wife Ann was buried in Fringford 24/10/1845 aged 42 yrs
John junior Kirby and Anne his wife had the following children baptised in Fringford Edward 1/5/1829 buried 11/9/1850 aged 21 yrs Thomas 14/8/1831 married Caroline Whitten 1856 Fringford JOHN 20/7/1834 BURIED FRINGFORD 13/11/1856 aged 22 yrs. Henry 13/11/1836 married Mary Ann William 4/8/1839 Elizabeth 5/12/1841 I have done the family tree further, but you may not feel this is the line to follow as both John Kirbys are Blacksmiths, and the son John Kirby 1834 was buried in 1856, I found a marriage for a John Kirby in 1853 in St Helens Abingdon, but he was a cordwainer as was his father John Kirby and they lived in Abingdon. so not the family you are seeking (Coachmen) The Annie Kirby married to Charles Edward Mansfield was a daughter of Thomas Kirby the grandson on the 1851 living with his widowed grandfather John 1770 and father John 1800. Let me know if you would like the small tree. Margaret

Margaret, I wonder if you can help me, I have a William Kirby born about 1860 Oxford and Bicester in another census. he died 1909 aged 50. On his marriage he said his father was John Kirby coachman as William was. If I have the right death the informant was his sister Sarah Kirby living at the same address in Fulham, not one the family lived at. He is living in Fulham with his wife Lily Salmon plus children, I have all that but I can't find any William and Sarah with a father John in Oxfordshire at all.
Now another thing I have is Sarah Ann Kirby death in 1936 there is a service book got the death and dates match with the certificate, so is this Williams sister? The informant is a A Mansfield a cousin. By chance I have found that there is a Charles Edward Mansfield in Uxbridge in 1911 near where this informant lived in 1936, This wife name is Annie Kirby born in Fringford. I have found this Annie born 1867 with her father Thomas Kirby both born in Fringford.
So I am looking for a Sarah Ann Kirby born 1858 Oxford, William Kirby 1860 Oxford / Bicester who could have a cousin Annie born 1867 Fringford. Were John and thomas brothers. I have not found John with any one so would be please with any help you can give,
I should add I did find a Sarah Ann Kirby in Fulham with her mother Jane Kirby 1830 born Fringford now they did have William Kirby born 1893 Fulham, living with them in 1911, same age as William and Lilys son. It all looks so neat but I just haven't been able to prove any of it. I also wonder if you could find a marriage for a John Kirby to a Jane,
Sorry its long
Thank you in advance.

Thank you so much Margaret for checking the burial of LYNE in 1833 and for coming up with a possible marriage. That small typing error in the newspaper changing 'Mr' to 'Mrs' had completely thrown us off the scent. Now we know it was William who had died.
Thank you for your time. Jeff

Hello Margaret,
Thank you for your kind offer. I have a specific but unusual enquiry. Newspapers report that on 29th March 1833 "Mrs William LYNE" died in Great Tew, Oxfordshire and that she was formerly of Gloucestershire. We think she was buried at Great Tew, but do not know her first name. Would you be able to find out either through the burial or monumental inscription at Great Tew? Any help would be fantastic. Best wishes, Jeff

Margaret Many thanks for all that information. I thought with the parents marriage at Wantage that some baptisms may have taken place there but obviously Grove was on the doorstep. I can see my wife will want to visit the churchyard there. What a pity that her direct ancestor, George Barwick [Barricks] 1843 isn't mentioned, yet his older sister 1841 and younger siblings, 1846 onwards are! Thanks again for your effort. Ken

Margaret Do you have access to Grove/Wantage christenings 1840s? My wife's great grandfather was born in Grove 9th Nov 1843. His birth name was registered as GEORGE BARRICKS but his name was actually George BARWICK. I wonder if he was chirstened. His parents, George & Ann [nee Mills] were married in Wantage 25 Dec 1840 - we have a copy of the marriage certificate. George and Ann had 8 children all born in Grove from c1842 to 1859. Any help would be appreciated. Thnaks Ken
