MARGARET ROSE,
Thank you very much for your excellent work! It was very kind of you to dredge out this fascinating information, which ties in with old family papers and what the census returns reveal. A really great service that you offer!

Hi Margaret

This is a wild shot!
James Humphrey Heritage was Christened on 02-12-1866 at Chacombe, Banbury by his mother Ann Heritage. I understand that Ann married Thomas Reynolds in Banbury 1869 after date James was born. Thomas does not appear to be father. James marriage certificate is unclear re fathers name.
Was Ann single when she gave birth to James oe were there another Marriage?
Any information I would be gratefull.

Can I ask for any Byles, Biles burials in Bladon, Oxfordshire if you have any records for that village?

Thanks anyway for the lookup you have just done for me for the Cudds and Brains. Hannah may have had a brother William born about 1747.

Benjamin Report 6 May 2011 12:02

Hi Margaret Rose.

Could you lookup the burial of a Hannah Brain at all. Last living in Bletchingdon. She was born about 1755. Plas an Edmund King died about 1827 in toot or Marsh Baldon. I would like to know his age at death. I found a will index for an Edmund King of Toot Baldon but dont know how old he was.

Hannah Brain's maiden name was Cudd and I am trying to get back further on her. She may have originated from Stanton Harcourt. Cudd seems to be a Gloucestershire name and the family may have originated there some way along the line. DO you have any BMDs for Stanton Harcourt at all please for any Cudd/Cud baptisms 1740-1760.

William Varney of Caversfield married in Beckley Ann Emmerton 17/9/1772

Michael Report 5 May 2011 20:55

Margaret,
I would be most grateful if you could back up or flesh out any of the following:
William VERNEY of Bicester and Whitecross Green, Oxfordshire, was born 1737 and died 1810. William married Ann EMMERTON, daughter of Lawrence EMMERTON (1720-1795) and Elizabeth (1734-1793).

Child, probably one of several, of William VERNEY was:
M James VERNEY or VARNEY (b. 1781, Oxfordshire) of Bicester and Summertown, Oxfordshire. James was a carpenter and married Catherine (b. abt. 1778/1779 (according to the census) at Bicester, Oxfordshire, d. 1862). In 1861 Catherine Varney was at Summertown, Oxon. James died 1842.

Thanks,
Michael

I cannot find a relationship between Edward Jeeves and Martha Jeeves.
I can only offer these baptisms
Martha Jeeves baptised 27/10/1808 St Mary Hitchin Hertfordshire daughter of John Jeeves and Martha
who had married 22/10/1804 Hitchin Herts she was Martha Field.

Edward Jeeves baptised 22/1/1797 St Mary Hitchin Herts son of William Jeeves and Elizabeth

The only thing that makes these baptisms possible is that both Edward and Martha use the father's names for their sons.
ie William Wright Jeeves son of Edward and Hannah
ie John Heath son of Samuel Heath and Martha. nee Jeeves

This is extremely complicated so I would print it off, and go over it slowly

Using the census for some of this.
Edward Jeeves born abt 1800 in Stratton Wiltshire
died 10/8/1875 Stratton St Margaret Wiltshire, there is a will proved by his sons Thomas Jeeves of Oare Wiltshire and Farmar Jeeves of Pewsey Wilts
Edward Jeeves c 1800 married Hannah Wright in Stratton St Margaret Wiltshire 30/10/1823
They had their first son baptised in Stratton St Margaret Wilts
28/1/1824 William Wright Jeaves, son of Edward and Hannah.
further children were baptised in Bampton Oxfordshire they being

Mary Jane 29/11/1826 daughter of Edward Jeeves and Hannah he a farmer of Lew.
Susanna Hiscocks Jeeves 1/7/1829 ditto
Farmer Geeves 29/8/1832 (Geeves)
Elizabeth
Prudence
Eleanor
Edward all baptised 13/11/1839 all Jeeves. I think the elizabeth entry must be the Ann born 1836 you sent by email.
Anthony Jeeves
Ruth Jeeves both baptised 19/7/1844
they did not baptise any further children in Bampton.

Hannah who married Edward Jeeves born c 1800 was baptised
in Shrivenham where Bourton baptisms were pre 1860
here she is and her siblings and parents
24/7/1790 Ann Wright 3 weeks daughter of William and Jone (sic) formerly Hitchcock
30/12/1791 William 6 weeks son of William and Jane
22/4/1793 Thomas 1 month son of Wm and Jane formerly Hiscock
22/6/1794 Jane 12 weeks daughter of Wm and Jane formerly Hiscock
29/5/1796 Elizabeth 15 weeks daughter of Wm and Jane formerly Hiscock
Sept 1797 Sarah 5 weeks daughter of Wm and Jane formerly Hiscock
28/8/1800 Joseph 2 months son of William and Jane
30/12/1802 Christopher 6 weeks son of Wm and Jane
28/3/1806 HANNAH daughter of Jane widow of William Wright of Bourton.
it is this Hannah that marries Edward Jeeves born c 1800.
They give their child Susanna Hiscocks Jeeves 1829 her grandmother's maiden name.

I will now go on to marriages
Stratton St Margaret Wiltshire
8/5/1828 Samuel Heath married Martha Jeeves
30/10/1823 Edward Jeeves married Hannah Wright

Bampton Marriages
10/7/1862 Thomas Hibbard bachelor miller of Wanborough son of William Hibberd
Prudence Jeeves spinster daughter of Edward Jeeves
witnesses Thomas Jeeves, Eleanor Jeeves

8/10/1862 Thomas Jeeves bachelor farmer son of Edward Jeeves
Charlotte Warner spinster daughter of William of South Leigh Oxfordshire
witnesses Thomas Jeeves, Eleanor Jeeves, Robert Warner, Sarah Ann Jeeves, Anne Warner.

14/4/1853 SAMUEL HEATH BACHELOR FARMER OF CANIDA IN AMERICA (sic) SON OF SAMUEL HEATH A FARMER
SUSANNA HITCHCOCK JEEVES spinster daughter of Edward Jeeves farmer
witnesses Edward Jeeves , Mary Jane Jeeves.

So Samuel Heath son of Samuel Heath who was married to Martha Jeeves married Susanna Hiscock Jeeves daughter of Edward Jeeves born c 1800.
Hope when you have written this up it will make more sense. I think that on the 1861 census a Warner had gone back with Edward Jeeves to Wiltshire as a farm worker, but you need to check this for yourself.
