Sorry Margaret, I've just realised my original post didn't have my Mum's name. She was Florence Beatrice Brookes born 4.01.1915 in the Banbury workhouse. She died on 24.12.2010 in Chester. Barry

Hi Margaret, I don't know if you've seen a thread I posted some time ago http://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards.page/board/help_clinic/thread/1249428 I wondered if you might have any ideas One suggestion was if my Mum was christened, the vicar might have noted the father's name. Do you have access to Banbury baptisms - could have been C of E or Methodist. I would be most grateful for any help. Barry

LAUREN I think that I have already looked for Gilbert George Larner for you in St Ebbes and could not find him, and also for Mary Ellen Larner. Perhaps you could look through my messages to you for the results. You contacted me through the email system. Kindest regards Margaret East

ALAN. I shall type this as it is transcribed. I think it refers to the fact there is sufficient room in the grave for one more burial. George William Spencer 32 yrs buried 3/4/1870 at Henley St Mary
11/4/1900 at Holy Trinity Henley. Harriet Spencer 69 yrs from The Union (workhouse) Service conducted by ....Brooke Curate of St Marys Henley (m.n. same as ( (n.d.) May 1897) may be opened once more.
The n.d. refers to no date only May 1897 of the following burial. I think the m.n. refers to the grave. but don't know for sure. Anyway here is the burial from May 1897 in Holy Trinity May 1897 (sic) Thomas Henry Spencer 37 yrs of Greys Hill, (date as sic) ( m.n. In Churchyard N.Border 2nd Row. No.3. 9ft.) The I is missing in.... In,.... but I have put it in as it makes more sense as In rather than as n. So Thomas was buried in the grave at 9ft down. then Harriet was buried, and there was still sufficient room for one other burial. Quite a saving on the purchase of a new grave plot if it could be used by the family.Sorry if I sound gruesome, Margaret.

Hi Margaret
I was directed your way by a fellow member. Would you be kind enough to look up the marriage of William Mills and Letitia ? c 1835. Their daughter Elizabeth was born 1836.
If at all possible I would like to confirm the date of birth of both parents as at present I have only c 1811 and c1816.
Your help would be most appreciated.
I'm also working on the marriage of Richard Edginton and Esther Merrick (pre 1827 when their son William was born)) who were born 1807 Weald and 1806 Clanfield so if there is any chance of you looking this one up again I'd be very grateful. Thank you

DEREK sorry missed the William Claridge and Jane marriage off 24/6/1769 William Claridge made his mark Jane Malum made her mark married in Witney St Mary witnesses Thomas Sansom, Ann Mills Jane was buried 28/11/1787 Witney St Mary. There are Malums in Minster Lovell. I wouldn't take much notice of the baptism date and the difference with the age at death, I will go back to it if you need me to.

Thankyou ever so much Margaret, you have been a huge help. Everything you said adds up apart from James Rowles baptism date. According to James death certificate he was 93 when he died in 1858. This would make her birth circa 1765. Do you think they baptized him at a later date. The parents names John and Lydia look spot on. Also you mention a marriage between William and Jane, does it mention her surname? Thanks again :-)

DEREK James Rowles married 17/3/1806 according to the parish register transcript, but according to the Marriages Disc for Oxfordshire it was 17/3/1808 So I have done the baptisms for their children in Hailey. 7/9/1806 John son of John and Hannah Rowles 26/6/1808 William ditto 3/3/1811 James ditto 21/3/1813 Lydia ditto 7/7/1816 Daniel ditto 4/7/1819 Jane. ditto There is no baptism for a Hannah Claridge or similar in Witney St Mary, nor Hailey. I found her in Minster Lovell, daughter of William and Jane Claridge who had married Witney St Mary 24/6/1769, who then baptised one child John 12/8/1770 Witney St Mary and disappeared until the burial of Jane Claridge 28/11/1878 Witney St Mary William and Jane Claridge obviously moved to Minster Lovell and had the following children baptised there 29/11/1772 Elizabeth 19/10/1775 Daniel 12/10/1777 Hannah Then returned to the Witney/Crawley area later
James Rowles was baptised in Hailey 17/1/1773 son of John and Lydia. there is another James Rowles baptised the previous year but going by the children of James Rowles and Hannah Claridge they have followed the English Naming Pattern, so am pretty certain this is the correct baptism for James Rowles marrying Hannah Claridge. Hope this helps
