	Have you got the family on the 1881? Opps just saw that you said you didn't have them before 1891.

	So far I have:- John Mathews (although his surname is actually Matthews) on the 1891 census, born c1879, shown as being born in St. Luke. Living with him is his mother, Caroline, widow, born Finsbury c1854 and his brother Henry, born Hoxton c1882. I have John Matthews marriage certificate 1901 showing his father as Frederick Matthews (deceased), a confectioner, and also John's birth certificate showing him as John Robert Matthews born 27/09/1878. On his birth certificate it shows his father as Henry Matthews, a ginger beer maker. His mother is listed as Caroline Matthews, formerly Spillers. I have found John Matthews on the 1901 census living at Chapeltown Barracks in Leeds. I have found John Matthews WWI pension records showing that his mother, Caroline, died in 1899. I am unable to find the birth of a Caroline Spillers, or a marriage between her and Henry or Frederick Matthews. I am unable to find any of the family on any census prior to 1891. Can anyone find any of this information, or does anyone have any ideas why they can't be found? Many thanks, Joanne.
