Hello Lesley

I've got a feeling this is a bit of a non-starter.

My grandfather was known as George Smith but his actual name may have been Arthur James Smith.
He was a sapper in the Royal Engineers and his army number was 47746. I have seen his medal card on Ancestry as George but am trying to find his next of kin.

He was born in Oct 1887 and if he was Arthur he was married to an Annie Freeman in about 1915. I need to prove that they are the same man in order to go back any further. Unfortunately he did not marry my grandmother! To the best of my knowledge he came from Derbyshire.

Hope all this makes sense

Pam

Hi Lesley

Dont know if you will be able to help, but I am looking for information on Andrew McLaughlin (McLoughlin) who was born in Belfast in 1898 and was initially based at Victoria Barracks in Belfast but I think was then posted to England. Dont know the regiment but could have been the Irish Rifles. I know its like looking for a needle in a haystack but if you could search for me under his name, I would be very grateful.

Many thanks, Mary

Hi Melanie.
It is worth trying the Regiment, but don't hold too much hope as they don't always keep the information, but they may be able to tell you where you go if they don't have it.

Hi, Would like to look up pension and medal records on my great grandfather Frank kirkwood. Born 1894 in Hartlepool, Northumberland. His parents were John Joseph Kirkwood and Hannah (formerly Stephenson). He was in France during WW1, serving as a sergant, then demoted to a private so family have informed me. I think he was in the Durham Light infantry at some point.

Hi Teresa

That sounds interesting as my dad was named after Naill (his uncle) and my dad served in the Kings Own in WW2.

Can you tell me how I would start to find out more and whether this is him .. would I need to contact the Kings Own regiment ?

Thanks so much

Melanie

Hi Lesley

I would be interested in any information regarding:

WWI

Naill Gregory (probably will be spelt Niel)
b1893 .. Madeley Heath, Staffordshire.
Went to war from Fleetwood, Lancashire
Died in the war .. don't know where or when.

The only information I have is that he died fairly early on during the war and was burried in a dugout with other soldiers. The family were notified of his death and his name is listed on the local War Memorial.

Thanks

Melanie
