If you are still doing look ups- I was wondering if you could do one for me please.
I have a Robert Platts born 1894 Coleorton (son of Robert & Frances) who was when he married 5/5/1915 a private with the 3rd battalion Notts & Derby (Sherwood Foresters) he was posted to 1st battalion 14.12.1915 and by the birth of his daughter 6/2/1920 was a corporal Royal Engineers residing Doe Lea,Ault Hucknal.
I have some notes to say he was a sapper- Reg no's. 18664,281126 and 309845????
Bit confused there!
He then disappears, any thoughts?

he was in the r g a. Bombadier.
army no 69004. i think he joined up in elgin morayshire.

Hi Lesley, i am after a William John Roberts, Regtl No 11015 of the South Wales Borderers later RWF and died in Caernarvon. His medal card could also include the Regtl no E/11015.

I found this info on my Great Grandfather and wonder if their is anything else. It would be much appreciated.

The National Roll of Honour of the Great War:-

“GALE, S.R., Corporal, MGC
Volunteering in 1915, he was drafted overseas two months later, and during his service on the Western Front, took part in the important battles of Ypres, Festubert, the Somme, Arras, Bullecourt, Messines, Lens, Cambrai, Havrincourt and the Aisne. He remained in France until February 1919 when he was demobilised, holding the 1914-15 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals.
76 Paget St, Rochdale Road, Manchester. Z10591

Corporal Gale’s full name was Sydney Rowland Gale. He was born on the 24th February 1886 at 67 Choir St, Broughton, Salford, Lancs.

His two younger brothers William and Victor both died in WW1

I also believe Wilfred Gale born 1895 perished but I have found no records.

My grandfather Robert Douglas Hellier was apparently in the Suffolk Regmt. but was transferred to the Royal West Kent Regmt and was listed as a corporal according to his first marriage certificate to my grandmother his address was Fort Garland Chatham. On this certificate his fathers name is down as Alfred although on another record he was listed as Sidney. The first marriage was in 1915
and his wife was Mabel.

Please can you give me any further details we were always told he was born in Canada but have no evidence.

hi im sorry this is all I have on my grandad Alfred James Ritchie ,born Dec 1892 Woolworth London ,possible lied about age he was in the blues house hold carvery queens guards[spelling not good] . Married miss larking had daughter Jessie 1916 . Alfred left with out permission because wife died 1928 ,got in major trouble put in glass house. He married again in 1930 to Florence Robinson Stepney. died 1958. fathers name also Alfred J Ritchie, born Scotland around 1872 . Mother of my grandad chandler before married.my grandad lived at 34 Arnold Rd , Dagenham Essex in 1940 .He's buried in St Michael ,Averley Essex wife She was born 31/7/1900 died 1966, birth place 4 conder street limehouse. massive job for you possible! but any help gratefully received. waiting patiently karon Ps found out he was in india in around the time of his first wife's death

(Next to this states Returned (1743 K.R) Adt I have put an explanation of this below:


Kings Regulations (1912) para 1743 states:

"Medals which, at the end of 10 years, still remain unclaimed, will be sent to ... the deputy director of ordnance stores, Royal Dockyard (Medal Branch), Woolwich ... to be broken up."

However as the letters ADT follow this this means that they were returned to Woolwich for adjustments and then returned to the soldier

Silver War Badge: (a soldier was only awarded this medal if he was wounded whilst serving)

I also have found a Medal Record for Edward G Cottingham which doesn't have anything to do with the service record above so it could be Edward Juniors

There is only 1 George Knagg in the Medal Rolls in the Lancashire Regiment but he was killed in action.
