With James Lever - there probably won't be any records online. I have checked but nothing is coming up. As he was underage he probably didn't even earn much of a service record and wouldn't have got a pension from the army or indeed any Medals.

Are your family still in Middlesbrough? I am just down the road in Nunthorpe.

I had a feeling he wasn't your direct descendent, he is in fact your Samuel's brother. Your Samuel's mother was Keziah (looked back on the census records) Unless you can find some detail either on a birth certificate or Marriage Certificate of his Regiment and Regiment number then this is very hard. You could try to go to the area library and try to look at the electoral roles for that year and on this it sometimes gives their Regiment & regiment number.

Thank you so much for info on my grandfather Herbert Redington. Sad to learn he died on the first day of the battle of the Somme aged 26, leaving my father aged 6 yrs.and my grandmother. They married in 1910 and she never did re-marry. So sad.

Thankyou very much for your offer of help. I am looking for the service records of my grandfather Alfred Ernest BAKER b 16/11/1882 lived in London.

Believed to have served at some time in the Army in Ireland (poss after WW1).

I have been to the National Archives a couple of times to try to find out anything but have always come away empty handed. It would be really good, if another pair of eyes could have a look.
