I didn't manage to find your Francis in the birth register but it was only a quick look - I'll try again next time.

I did, however, find him in the 1871 mistranscibed as ROSSY let me know if you want me to send it to you.

I have found , with much help! that my grandfather, William Francis Vincent, was born in Jersey c1831, and I am looking for his father (and his mother). There is a record in the 1851 census of FRANCIS VINCENT, Age 60, Estimated YoB 1791, Carpenter, Main Road to St Heliers, District: Jersey Jersey, Parish: ---, Administrative County: Channel, Birth Place: St Peters, Birth County: Jersey. Is it possible for you to check whether this Francis Vincent is the father of William Francis Vincent?
Later information: I have no access to the 1881 census on Genes Reunited, but replies to my inquiries give rise to some confusion.
One reply quoted from the 1881 census:
Francis Vincent (father of William Francis Vincent) Born Dorchester 1802, widower living with family in Brighton.
Another reply:
Frances Vincent (mother of William Francis Vincent) Widower!! Age 79 Born Dorchester Milton. Living with family in Brighton.
Obviously something wrong, but I think the second is the more likely.

I have just had a quick look at the censuses and I don't think the Francis you have is the father of William as he is on the 1841aged 50 and a Sawyer with presumably a wife Susanne also 50 and a son Joseph 15.
There is a William aged 14 on the 1841 living with Frances 35 (born England), Mary 70 and Philip 15, all born Jersey.
The only way I will be able to find your William is if he was baptised and I'll have a look next time I'm at the Archive.

Thank you for your unexpectedly prompt reply. I looked up FamilySearch.org, as you said, and in the 1881 census I found Frances Vincent, age 79, born 1802 in Dorchester Milton, Widowed, mother of William Francis (my grandfather, born 1831 in Jersey), but, of course, without her maiden name I cannot find her marriage and the bridegroom, who would be the father of William Francis and my great grandfather. A little disappointing that the Francis Vincent I suggested is not who I am looking for. So I must hope that William Francis Vincent was baptised and you can then help me.

My DIL has just started her FH I have been helping her get going, we have done well with the local branch of her family but then we find her grt grandma was born in Guernsey I have found her on the 1901 census with parents Walter & Julia Green, her name is Lilly or Lillian Green age 7 on 1901. We would really like to find her birth, parents marriage and there is a mystery about a brother born after 1901 named Wilfred.
I would be very grateful for any advice you could give me or at least point me in the right direction.

Pam. i put a thread on yesterday requesting help with Jersey records. Gwen kindly nudged your thread for me.
I am looking for a marriage between William Ryan aged 23 born in Ireland and Elizabeth Paul aged 21 born in England. on the 1891 census they are already married and living in Regent Road, St Helier, Jersey. He was a gunner with the Royal Artillery. I have searched the English marriage records but have drawn a blank. I was wondering if it was possible that they may have married in Jersey.

I have recently, when searching for something else, registered with Find My Past and in two censuses, 1881 and 1891, my grandfather, William Francis Vincent, is shown as born in Dorchester, whereas in 1871 he was shown as Jersey born. His wife is shown as born in Dorchester in 1835. Is it possible that the family came from Dorchester and that William Francis's mother (also born in Dorchester in 1802) was only visiting or staying in Jersey at the time of the birth? I am sorry if I have had you on a wrong thread.

I have looked through Parish Records and this is what I have found - I think it is your family.
Baptisms
23/7/1837 Mary Rachel daughter of John Ahier and Marie Le Cras
17/4/1839 Harriet Jane - parents as above
28/3/1841 Jane Louisa - ditto

As the others were born after formal registration began I did not look them up as it means going somewhere else, but those seem to fit in pretty well with the information you already have.

I also found a marriage in the parish of St Clement between John Ahier and Marie Le Cras on 28/8/1836. The entry has an additional note which translates as 'in unusual circumstances' which has everyone at the Archive puzzled. It's not unusual to see that at a baptism when the child is not expected to live but no-one has ever seen it on a marriage entry before.

I have a strong suspicion that Marie LeCras could be the elder sister of my 2Xgt Grandmother Elizabeth LeCras 1817 St Helier,daughter of Thomas LeCras & Marie Coutanche.

Elizabeth had a younger sister Esther c.1825 who also married, around 1845, a John Ahier born approx..1824 Trinity.
Complicated family possibly 2 sisters marrying a John Ahier.!!!!!

A Harriet J Ahier was a witness on the MC of Elizabeth's illegitimate ? daughter Elizabeth Jane Much(c.1837) in 1864.So it all seems to tie the family together...

Pam can you help find the birth of Peter Breurd born about1889. On the 1901 census he is living with my grandfathers family (John Brown) in Plymouth. On the previous census he was living with another family in St Helier. I would be grateful if you can give me any information about him to connect him to the family.

This is very much a 'maybe' as the year of birth does not quite tie in with the later censuses.

31/10/1827 William Francois son of Philippe Jean Vincent and Francoise Dennison in St Helier

This fits with the 1841 census that I found.

I also found the marriage of the above couple but would you believe it I forgot to write it down as we had trouble reading the record and I got distracted, I do remember that the marriage was in St Peter and it said that Francoise was from St Helier which may not tie in with her being born in Dorchester.

I have only looked at St Peter and St Helier so far but I have to go back tomorrow so I'll plough on and see if there are any others who might fit the bill.

Your couple, William Ryan and Elizabeth Paul did marry in Jersey. I haven't got the exact date yet as I have to go to another office to look that up. They are in the St Helier register that covers the period 1889 to 1893.
Unfortunately I may not be able to get to the Registry Office until next week so bear with me.

The only Peter Breurd (btw I think that shoud be Brouard) that I can see in either the 1891 or 1901 was from Guernsey and unfortunately I do not have access to Guernsey records. If I'm missing him on the Jersey census point me in the right direction and I'll give it a go.

Thank you so much for looking that up for me.. I have searched the English records time and time again, and couldnt understand why i could not find them... but now i know!!
Would it be too much to ask if it would be possible to see if they had any children while they were in Jersey? My grandmother was born in Sunderland in 1894, so they had moved to England by then and i know she wasnt the eldest child. Do you know how and where I can apply to get a copy of the marriage certificate?
