Find Ancestors

I have looked in vain for the Census containing =

Valentine Ling born 1840 Hundon Suffolk.died 1902
Valentine Ling 1840 married Emma Sams born1840.

Another member and myself are unable to find him on the 1891 and1901 Census.

So I wondered if someone would be kind enough to see if they can find him for me please.

Are you sure valentine died in 1902, in the below 1901 cencus his wife emma who is living with her son john is a widow.

So it looks as though Valentine Ling died 1902
where was he on the 1901 Census??

Hi Alice,
Valentine died 4/3/1902 in Edmonton Union workhouse, why Emma is recorded as a widow I don't know. I suppose Valentine could have been in the workhouse during the 1901 census but I'm not sure how to find the census for it, although it must exist!
Valentine is also missing on the 1861 census, he would have been single, and the 1891 census, (no sign of any of the family). I've tried all combinations of name variants but to no avail.

Looks like Barbara has found him but, if not, - you can get Union Workshouse Edmonton by putting in the search - John Henry Roach born 1854 Gloucestershire.

This will bring up page 1 of 36 for the Workhouse, then it's a case of trawling through I am afraid.

It just gives the mans name John Roach??

I don't think Valentine Lang is the man you are looking for. There is a Valentine Lang on the 1891 census living with his wife Amelia and their children. His occupation in 1901 and 1891 is shown as clerk.

O.K. - Lets try another way !

Go to census on Ancestry - click on 1901

Don't put anything in but scroll down the page - it gives a list of places.

Click on Middlesex

It gives another list of places - click on Edmonton

scroll down to the bottom and you will get strand union workhouse and Edmonton unioin workhouse - it could be either of them?

The Valentine Lang shown on the 1901 census is a widower, he gives a year of birth of 1838, occupation clerk, born London.

Valentine LANG shown on the 1891 census is married to Amelia, born 1841 London, Occupation clerk.

Valentine LANG shown on the 1881 census was born 1838 London, occupation clerk married to Amelia.

There is a death in December 1891 for Amelia M Lang (aged 47), this is, I believe, the wife of Valentine Lang which ties in with the widower status on the 1901 census.

I don't think that Valentine Lang and Valentine Ling are the same person.

Valentine LING is pretty consistent with his place and year of birth and his occupation as a labourer.
