Crougar, are you able to see the 1911 census image for the Bakers in Alberta? Shows James and Arthur immigrating much earlier.

Was Charles middle name Herbert, by any chance?
I decided to look at British Columbia records, only because they have better records than other provinces. There's a Charles Herbert Fautley who died 19 Feb. 1974 in Whalley, British Columbia, aged 77.
Also an Elsie Fautley died 7 May, 1945, Vancouver, BC, aged 47.

His parents another James John Fautley born 1855 married Elizabeth Gilbert in England GRO=F/Q 1891 Dartford Kent V.2a p.689

They must have all emigrated as a family out to Canada

I have his brother Charles married at Medicine Hat Alberta 15-7-1919 to Elsie Craven and a child born to the couple as well Violet born in 1920

And thats the only info I had on Canada

Didn't care for the stepfather?

Tsk, tsk. Looks like Charles lied to get in. He is much younger on the 1911 census. (Although on the census, my rellies birthdates are "off" by one or two years.)

I couple of my mum's rellies' lied about their ages on the attestation papers. They wanted to sign up, but they were too young.

Curious, Lisa, if mother is remarried in 1911 why did Arthur give her name as Lizzie Fautley in 1914?

Lisa J in California Report 15 Apr 2008 18:09

Margaret, a few of my rellies gave their incorrect birthdates, as well. ;) On purpose.

There is a Baker family on the 1911 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. List includes some of the Fautley given names.

Stepfather Baker was a plasterer; same occupation, I believe, that James had on his attestation papers.

MargaretM Report 15 Apr 2008 18:07

Just noticed Arthur's birth on attestation papers Sep. 29, 1893, Charles Dec. 4, 1893. Realized that Charles birthdate is wrong on attestation papers.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 15 Apr 2008 17:59

Also Arthur Fautley born 1893, Belvedere, Kent, next-of-kin mother Lizzie Faultley, Raymond, Alberta.
He enlisted Sep. 1914, Charles Feb. 1915. Did mother remarry between those dates?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 15 Apr 2008 17:55

There are also attestation papers for Charles Fautley born 1896, Belvedere, Kent. (Brother?) His next-of-kin is mother Mrs. Baker in Raymond, Alberta.

His census record is on Automated Genealogy in 1906. Cannot find him in 1911 yet. It gives his immigration date. (He was living in Saskatchewan, if that is the same James as your James.)

Automated Genealogy can be a bit confusing, but you can see the original images.

I'll send it to you, but it will be the same address. (Let's try that way, though, and we'll end up with less going back and forth here.) :)

Hi Crougar:

It gives a bit of information on the papers.

I am trying google searches to see if I can find anything else about him. (Papers show where he lived in Alberta.)
