Haven't actually lived in Skipton for years but 'peaceful' isn't the word I would use for it - the traffic on High Street is still as bad (if not worse) as it was in the 50s when you took your life in your hands trying to cross!!
To find any messages you have posted look at any message and on the left hand side there is a yellow box headed Top Tips. The bottom line in the box is 'My Threads'; click on that and it will show you all the threads to which you have contributed.

Hi Andy,
Many thanks for your tips and assistance. All this is a bit new for me - I am a rusty silver surfer and find it difficult to keep up with technology. I am still a one-finger typist and I have a dyslexic keyboard - it takes as long to correct spelling and typing errors as it does to type it in the first place!
Cheers for now,
Alwyn.

Hi there Ozbird,
What a pal you are! What a bloody GENIUS you are! I think you have discovered much more than you think you have. What a star you are!
If indeed William Goodyear had a second marriage, and it was to Maria Mills, I think that this possibly could be my James MIlls widow Maria, who was last heard of in the 1861 Census as a widow using her maiden name os Pearce, aged 29 in service in Isleworth Middlesex.
Just 10 years on she would have been 39 and if homesick - she had left her young son James Walter in Micheldever, with her parents - and returned home to Micheldever and remarried, (to William Goodyear), this would all fit, but is it fact or fancy. It would be nice to think it could be fact, but very little is that simple is it.
If it is James' widow, why no mention of her son James Walter - or did he prefer to stay with his Grandparents who had brought him up thus far - and if it is the right Maria, she wed William just 2 years after the 1861 Census.
I would also love to know when exactly Maria's husband James (my Great, Great, Grandfather) died, and whether in Winchester Prison or in India, as he was in inmate *(1851 Census) prior to his wedding to Maria on 7th September 1851.
Who was William Goodyear's first wife, do we know? Were there any children, and, who was the Amy Goodyear who was staying with the Mills family at the 1891 Census, noted as a niece aged 8? If she was William & Maria's daughter she would have been born when Maria was 51/52! Improbable in rhose days surely.
Another question that arises is whether Maria moved up to Folkestine in the mid-1880's with William, because I can recall no mention of a Maria by either my Father or Grandfather, Uncle Goodyear yes, but no Aunt Maria or Mary that I recall.
Anyway dear, dear Ozbird, many thanks for all of your work, your time and effort, and your encouragement and stimulation.
Kind regards and best wishes,
Alwyn.

Hi Everybody'
Many thanks for your efforts in finding William and Amy Goodyear, and for finding the link between the Mills and Goodyear families - it seems as if William Goodyear married my Gt, Gt, Grandmother after the decease of her first husband James Mills, my Gt, Gt, Grandfather! And moved to Folkestone in the mid-1880's!
My thanks also for finding my late Grandfather's kid sister Fanny Mills. She has turned up in Folkestone, Kent, in the 1901 Census - she appears to have been in service away from the family home, and I believe she married in 1903, but I don't know who to. Short of going through the 1903 (4th Quarter) BMD Marraiges name by name, can anyone suggest anything, another way perhaps?
Very Many Thanks,
Alwyn.

Hi There Ozbird,
How do you do it? I started going through the 1903 BMD at AAG right through to BAD last night and just the letter A took me in excess of 4 hours! Here you are with the answer already. I will be in your debt for ever at this rate. Thank you.
Regards,
Alwyn
