Just thought i'd reprint this here for those who have their threads on newest first :)


VERY old dates on threads.

Hi everyone, i'm just have a general moan, but when you are searching the boards by name, can you please check the date on the thread before you reply!!

Today as with every other day we are having alot of threads being pulled up that are ancient.... some are over 4 years old.....!!!

Genes keeps all threads in it's database so people looking for family members in time to come can find out who else has been looking.....

....but PLEASE, if you are searching check the date on the thread before you reply. If the thread is relatively old, i mean does anyone check a thread they posted in Jan this year let alone 3 years ago??

The best option is to PM the person the thread belongs to (click on their name), make reference to the original thread and sit and wait for a reply. Alot of people may not even be here anymore, and those of us who are still here have to wade through all the old messages trying to get to the new ones!!

Sorry to have a moan on a lovely afternoon...

just to let you know -, i saw an ad on tv on sunday having not been on site for a few months due to work commitments, and there were 3 messages 4 months old waiting thru this i have been able to re- united my uncle with his daughter who he has not seen since she was a baby!

Thats fantastic news..... this is what we are advocating...we are trying to stop people wasting efforts replying to old messages and also pm the person concerned...it's always helpful to cover all bases!!!

We are trying to encourage people to pm so messages like that do not get missed just because someone does not check an old message...

This site is about communication, sadly alot of people forget there is more than one contact medium here...

Only helping those to help themselves more efficiently!!

Hi all, I've only just seen this thread as I don't come onto Trying To Find very much at the moment. What a good idea Tracey, to put this thread up (but I haven't read all of it! lol).

This tip re Trying To Find would be brilliant on the Tips Board; can I suggest you put it on there as well?
Although I've been here for 4 years, it was a timely reminder for me, too - so thank you.
