My grandson is besotted with anything to do with the Titanic -trying to think of a birthday gift for him -he`s nearly 12.Have got photos of 2 gravestones in Dumfries where 2 of the crew are buried.

Hi Elizabeth

I understand that one of my ancestors survived the titanic. She was a hired maid for a wealthy American couple. Her name was Eliza Bird. The couple had hired another maid who decided against going on the trip, so Eliza was hired as her replacement. This couple decided to stay together on board the ship when it sank, and the lady gave Eliza her fur coat to keep her warm. Later Eliza met their daughter who refused to take the coat back as her mother wanted her to have it.

I was wondering if you have any information on Eliza at all? Thanks

thanks for the offer, a family rumor on my dads side was that there was an uncle on there part of the crew, surname penny would be from hampshire uk
