There is a ten year gap between Henry and Thomas - I would have expected Henry and James to have been the children of Henry Snr's first wife and Elizabeth and Thomas to be the children of his second wife.

Linda,

This isn't making any sense--found this record for a Henry and Ellen in 1851, his occupation is a Hawker of fish. The birth for this Henry is 1821. This can't be your family.

Even more confusing - in 1851 there is another Oxley family living in the same house - William and Jane with a 2 year old son Henry.

Potty

Potty Report 3 Mar 2008 16:20

Effie

This would appear to be Mary in 1841 - the image says Oxley and they are living in Moor Square which is where it says James was born in 1871

Linda

I cannot find the family in 1861. I have looked at several images from Cripplegate and they are very difficult to read - they must have been mistranscribed of even not transcribed at all.

Also, I cannot find births for Elizabeth and Thomas or a marriage for Henry to either a Ellen or a Mary.

I wouldn't be too sidetracked by that Sheffield marriage - as you say it is a long way from London and they did seem to live in Cripplegate most of their lives or said they did!!

On the 1841 image there is note that could be Wid(ow)
I wonder if that Mary could have been married to a James - there are these baptisms from the IGI that would tie in with the children:
