Hi Lesley, could you possibly do a 1871 lookup for me? There is a Margaret Lancaster aged 18 listed in Preston, Lancashire, in the index of that Census. I believe it may be my GG grandmother, who married in Preston aged 23 in 1875 (she died just before the 1881 census aged 28). Her father Richard Lancaster was a publican but may have died before 1871. I will be curious to know whether this Margaret is living with her family and, if so, who they are. |

No, the "Search Records" facility on GR for the 1871 Census does not give a place of birth, I think the location listed is where the person was living in April 1871 i.e. in this case Preston. Someone aged 18 in 1871 would be presumed by GR to be born in 1853. |

There are two listed, as far as I can see. I am interested in the 18 year old, not the 17 year old. I guess I will have to wait till I have a long enough list of lookups to buy some credits. Thanks for looking. |

There is this one also and funnily enough a Richard Lancaster married a Martha in 1853 and this Margaret is down as her stepdaughter |

And this is the only one in Lancashire in the 1861 census with a father named Richard |

I guess Lancaster would be a justifiaby popular surname in Lancastershire ;o) |
