Alison

Is your father sure that Frederick's wife was Gladys?

I have found a George F (frederick?) Reynolds and a Florence with their 5 month old son George F Reynolds at Handsworth in 1901.

I can't find an appropriate Daisy Reynolds who should have been on the 1901 census as you say she would have been the oldest but your father wasn't sure.

I am not sure that her name was gladys at all it could be florence. pamela found a daisy born in stourbridge in 1903 and a gladys born 1905 stourbridge so it is possible. have you found where they lived? im wondering if the certif i found was returned because florence and george is nothing like gladys and fred. as for daisy being the oldest dad does get a bit muddled up. thank you. ali

I have been looking for Frederick's death record but can't find one that looks right. I have, however, found one George Frederick Reynolds age 28 at death in Dec 1/4 1902 W.Brom (6b 492)

I was thinking that George F age 27 and Florence age 25, with George F 5 months on the 1901 Handsworth census could have been Frederick with son George F born Dec 1/4 1900 W.brom (6b 789) and that perhaps William Sidney was born around the time his father frederick (alias George F) had died? But I'm not sure where Daisy and Gladys fit in?

It would be easier if we had those 1911 census forms!!!

I would think that the birth of John S W Reynolds (mmn Cooper) in Stourbridge 1928 and the Daisy Reynolds born 1903 Mar 1/4 Stourbridge could possibly be the children of William Sidney and Phoebe Cooper??? Your father's siblings?? You haven't mentioned any siblings for your father. Whoops, forget Daisy wrong dates....getting muddled!

I'm sorry, but I have to go now, will look in later to see how you are getting on.

If you dad's brother was a George, what year was he born and I will look to see if there is a mmn for his birth record.

Were your family always based in the Midlands?

I've found a birth of George W Reynolds (dad's brother?) in Paddington. Mmn Cooper Sept 1/4 1931 ref 1a Page 58.

not sure if this is just a coincidence?

sorry had to pop out. back now. Dads brother was george born brierley hill west mids in 1930(DEC 12)the family could be from anywhere. I have found out that mother of william and siblings born 1902 was not florence and father was not george. I have spoken to reg office and they are sending a birth cert hopefully williams in the post but parents are not gladys and fred or flo and george. Things are still a mystery..... Will i ever get to the bottom of this. ali

It is a difficult one, but don't give up hope. You will probably have to make a few orders for certificates to work this one out. Addresses are the key factor and fathers' names on marriage certificates.

What parish did your grandparents marry? It might be worth contacting the local History Society and see if they can trace who was living at the address on the marriage cert from the electoral roll. Or maybe someone on GR has access to electoral roll records for around the same year as your grandparents were married?

I think you need to clarify that William's father was a Frederick.

When I get time, I will take another look on the BMDs

Grandparents were married in the parish of brockmoor in county of stafford. What is really spooky is the address of william at time of marriage is the same house that my parents first moved into after they got married....and they never knew.!!! Both grandmothers had same name and were married on the same day!!! No wonder its all a mystery...ali
