Find Ancestors

My great grandmother Florence Stubbles married Walter Jones on 10/10/1897 Kensington, London, wittnesses were George Stubbles and Richard W. Stubbles and Ada Storey. This Richard was my greatgrandmother's brother. On her birth certit 8/5/1873 it states that her father was Richard Stubbles, Railway Porter, and her mother Elizabeth formally Shorley. I also have Elizabeth's birth certificate stating that she was born 9/8/1848, her mother Eliza formally Copperwheat.
My problem is that I cannot find any reference to a marriage between Richard Stubbles and Elizabeth Shorley. I know the name is Shorley as I have checked with handwriting charts, it is quite clearly an "S". The only information I keep coming up with is that he was married to an Elizabeth Kerley. This I know is wrong.
I am beginning to think that she may have been his second wife. Can anyone help me with this query?

I think this confirms we have the right Elizabeth.
We have Richard W George Florence and Elizabeth and grandchildren Jones and the right place. However Elizabeths birth date on the census is c1834. -14 years too old.

Well, looks like he married Ada anyway - but bit of a coincidence, the other bride "Sherley"?

I searched on findmy past for Elizabeth born Durweston and Kerley was the name that came upthere tooo.

Just trying to get a handle on Elizabeth Shorley.

Ancestry got it wrong again in 1861:

Seems to me, from the census info others have posted about Elizabeth mother of Florence, as compared to the info about Elizabeth daughter of James Shorley and Eliza Copperweat that I've posted, that you've got hold of the wrong Elizabeth Shorley:

"I also have Elizabeth's birth certificate stating that she was born 9/8/1848, her mother Eliza formally Copperwheat."

It still seems too much of a coincidence that Sherley bride on there. Wonder if she could be related to Elizabeth.

BTW, if I were Marilyn, what I'd do is get hold of the Stubbles-Kerley marriage cert, and also a couple of the other kids' birth certs, and see how the mother's surname reads on them.
