Well I have a proven and tried bigamist.
After he came out of prison his first wife took him back would you believe.

Mike * Report 24 Jul 2010 21:55

I can believe it.
My wife beater was sent for hard labour twice and still she took him back and had 2 more children (well at least his name is on the birth certs ... though not on the census with her at the time !!!)

Don't think women had too much choice then ... no bread winner = no status, no rights.

Oh what a lot of black sheep in our families. Chappie I'm talking about was 23 when he married a 45 year old widow (retired tobacconist)! Wonder if it was for her money:-)))

He had already been married again twice before first wife died - she was still using his name though. From what I've been told he changed his name so that is probably why I've been unable to find him on 1911 census.

You are so right Michael. Just had to put up with it then - although surprisingly women still take wife beaters back in this day and age.

Tell us about the witch Michael. Is that the occupation shown on the census?

No it was pre-census ( 1629)
Tried for witchcraft at Lancaster .
It seems case was not proven but they locked her up anyway.
She was still in Lancaster Castle 8 years later but can't find any record of her after that.

I'll be an anxious mum today. Daughter driving nearly 400 miles from Hampshire to Dundee to take her father to see his brother & s-i-law and his sister's daughter. Taking 3 grandchildren with her. I've done the journey to Dundee more than once, first time when I was a rather inexperienced driver. Wish I wasn't such a worrier.
