You're right Sylvia. I had forgotten there was someone else involved in the Hole in a Bucket song. Now you've reminded me of it I think it was probably one of the favourite songs of the evening because it gave people a laugh. It was probably around the same time you were enjoying Herman's Hermits!!!

Actually I quite liked them - but not as much as the Beatles. Always had a soft spot for George Harrison and his song about his guitar gently weeping nearly has me in tears.

Don't seem to be able to go tonight - but I must.

Night night to all

Just doing the rounds. Caught up with you on another thread Sylvia. You did have me worried. Thought I may have offended you with my "No, Sylvia you shouldn't mention it". Sometimes you cannot be sure people have taken things as they were meant to be taken when there is no tone of voice to judge by.

I started at Liverpool university just as the Beatles were becoming known as a northern group. Even went to the Cavern just once, but they weren't playing that night!!

1959 that was!

Dare I say that I liked Herman's Hermits better??

I worked in a hotel in Frinton-on-Sea that summer (1959), and there was a Jazz Festival in Clacton, just a few miles away. We used to leave work at about 9 pm, drive to Clacton for the late show (there were 4 altogether), then back to Frinton for a couple of hours sleep before getting up to take early morning cups of tea to the guests.

I saw Hymphrey Lyttleton one night and Johhny Dankworth with Cleo Laine on another. Don't remember the other 2 now ..... but those two gave me my long time love of traditional jazz.

Jeanie, we saw Harry Belafonte live soon after we arrived in Vancouver, our anniversary treat. As you said, just him and one other person (a woman who was involved in the Hole in My Bucket song/scene), and he sang and sang.

If it's about the same family then simply add it onto that thread ( you can edit your title to include "New request" or "Still looking" etc

Now I'm jealous Michael. Had my first baby just as the Beatles were taking off. In fact, first time I heard one of their songs I was lying in a hospital bed. Didn't have much of a chance of getting to concerts after that.

Before I married I saw Harry Belafonte (in Kilburn I think). He was stupendous. No backing singers, no other artists on the show. Just him and he just sang and sang.
