Well done Irene. You got a positive response. That is wonderful. Must confess, however, that I will not be holding my breath until GR actually does what they say they are going to do. Sorry. I asked them if they could make one very tiny adjustment some months ago. Got an acknowledgement that someone would look at it. Result so far - not done I'm afraid.
I will keep my fingers crossed though.

I thought you may like to see GR response to my post on Facebook last evening
Do GR members know of the Trying to Find free look up service offered by other GR members - I have been a member for a couple of years - and only appreciated this superb add- on 3 weeks ago There is obviously a lack of knowledge regarding this as postees - ask for help and log off - not realising what is being offered...
I think the reason " postees" may not stay on line is possibly not realising that there is a dedicated group of people more or less on line waiting to respond instantaneously to queries
Most of us only have an experience of PM - from hot matches - and the wait for a response - hopefully at some stage in the future
Since I posted my - trying to find - and reading all the different postings on all the boards - reading all the chit chat amongst the thread groups - it is obvious that there is a - more or less-a 24 hour IM service on look ups - allowing for the Australian and Canadian helpers
I cannot believe with this incredible voluntary service being offered that GR does not advertise this fact
There was a request recently of someone looking for a cousin who was thought to have died when his ship sank - within 59 minutes the corrected ship name was found - the crew list posted - and her cousin s job- he was a cook - was also noted -what a wonderful piece of historical information - and a piece of someones family history restored to the family memories 70 years after - and to a newer generation
Come on GenesReunited - help the volunteers
Response from GR Thanks for your feedback. We always appreciate comments from our members as it allows us to continuously improve and develop our website. We will endeavour to do more to create awareness around the speedy responses members receive when using the “Trying to Find” section of our site; particularly since it seems to be a very successful tool for helping those who require a bit of extra guidance to get them back on track.

( Note the thread on the TTF - boat sinking was Loch Doon )

Hi everyone
Sorry I have been absent from my post. So pleased to see it has been getting additional attention since I've been laid up.
Glad you got Brazil in the sweepstake Cathy - I think - must confess I know absolutely zilch about footie.
And a contributor from Spain as well. Excellent. We must be going international on here.

true true
I'm amazed at the number of banks all around the world that I apparently have acounts with, accounts that have received "unauthorised" activity, and therefore I must do this-or-that or my account will be suspended
and similarly, the number of credit cards I apparently have where there has been "unauthorized" activity, and I must click here or ............

This privacy thing .... you have to remember that everyone you ever sent a cheque to has your bank account number and sort code. Just a thought !

I did know that Facebook are being investigated over privacy issues in USA - my daughter and I joined when her son - my grandson joined - aged 11 - and we both watch his page like hawks - but if we really thought all the issues through over privacy - we would never go on the net - everytime I renew on FMP - I receive bogus emails pretending to be RBS asking for confirmation of my bank details - all bogus - just report as spam -
I decided risking my privacy on Facebook to watch my grandson - was a fair exchange - I also sweep my computer for privacy invasions fortnightly - and report all spam as soon as I receive the email
I agree receiving emails from GR for responses on every thread would be unsuitable for the regular contributors to the "boards" as you say you - and others - would receive an immense amount

Almost as annoying as all the e-mails in the inbox from postees asking me to open my tree. They assume every helper on TTF must be their relation.

I was actually referring to various suggestions that GR should send emails
I am a member on a couple of other sites that do send emails, and while on the one hand it does remind me to go back to the site ........ it's also annoying as I go through the list of emails, clicking delete, delete, delete!!
I have a philosphical objection to FaceBook
.......... which is under investigation in Canada for invading and ignoring privacy rules and regulations. And that also deters me!

well the whole world will know now as I have posted a version of my comment - with additions on GR facebook page
I am not an expert on Facebook but - GR is actually a " Page" - with fans -and Facebook do not send emails for " Page" postings - so you would be quite safe to open a Facebook account - do not add any friends - add GR as a "page" and then you can read and post - without the obligatory emails -

GR seems to prefer to leave the impression that THEY are responsible for all the help on this site
when they don't even carry the records themselvs, they just direct you to another site to access the census, ot bmd, or whatever.
Re Facebook .... no I haven't seen those postings
I refuse pointblank to join or look on Facebook.
But you know what???
I think I much prefer NOT to be sent messages by email to say there have been postings on threads that I have contributed to or started.
Just think how many emails could be in your inbox ....... I'd have hundreds nearly every day, all just saying "there has been a posting on ....."!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to edit my earlier posting and put it on Facebook - GR responds to comments made there - they are re- changing clipboards back - as members felt it was a backward programming step - have you read the Facebook postings
