Member Since: February 2004 Posts: 16 Send Message	Can anyone please confirm that the expression 'Served his time before the mast' means that the person went to sea - but was not necessarily a 'Sailor' - could have been a Carpenter, or some other trade that was needed aboard the ship. Is it possible to trace these people? Thanks SM
