Please be aware that 3 years ago in 2007 under the heading of "Joshua Ireland John Nicholas" I started another thread but up to 2010 I have had nil replies. I have read that potential helpers who may still be slogging away, dislike persons who delete threads.

I have started a new thread because I wanted to involve persons willing to do lookups, but to be aware of my groundwork in the meantime.

My paternal grandfather, Joshua Ireland John Nicholas born December 1888 in Southampton., UK.
Served as a ships steward between UK and US. Found him on crew lists up to 1928 (US ship). In 1913 his UK seaman's papers show him as Joshua. Many crew lists show him as just......... J Nicholas. At least one list in the '20's showed him as John Nicholas.

May have lived in Leonia, New Jersey, pre WW2. A british based person might describe to another british person that Leonia was part of New York (albeit that it is New Jersey).

Although I have a sub to Ancestry, this does not include USA or Worldwide

So far the only things I can find were:-

Probably it will transpire that none of these fit the person I seek, but I at least need to.........“eliminate them from my enquiries”.
