Find Ancestors

Hi Allan, his cousin, hubby and their 2 daughters live in Mandurah, Halls head. Dont really know if that is near you but that it is in western Australia.

It would seem there are quite a few hebridean islanders in the Perth area as well as other areas.I',m sure we have just as many sheep as you do :-D

I was only curious about joseph because if we can find him, no doubt we will find Clifford.Will let you know as soon as i find something new.

I'm not a church-goer :-)

As to your query, I know nothing about Joseph Mortimer other than what was on my grandparents Marriage Certificate i e he was a coach trimmer, and was deceased before the marriage.

I have found a couple of marriages for Joseph Mortimer's, one of which took place in Stockport, an area where my grandparents lived and my Aunt was born. My father was born in Stretford

However, I have been unable to locate Joseph, if he was a coach trimmer, on any census.

I've had to rely on others to do overseas searches as I only have a British subscription to FMP and am not a member of Ancestry.

I will be re-joining the local Family History Society which has world-wide subscriptions to both sites. The Society is usually very busy and trying to access one of its computers can be frustrating :-(

If you don't mind my asking, whereabouts do your Husband's cousins live?

I live in Australind which is about 160 km south of Perth.

Hi Allan, have been reading through the thread but wondered as I cant see it anywhere, what was the name of joseph's wife(your gg grandma) and when did they marry?When was he and his wife born?

Do you know if joseph had any brothers or sisters?

I have just realised it's sunday with you so not sure if you are a churchgoer or not? Me personally im not so if you reply tomorrow that;s ok with me. However if you dont use the comp on sunday, I'LL wait til monday or whenever you have a minute.

Just for interest, I have an aunt in sydney(uncles wife) she is 83. her nephew corresponds with me quite often. My husbands family have cousins near Perth too. So it's a small world!

Before I made contact with my cousin my sole starting point with my search for Clifford was one photo. My cousin's mother (my dad's sister) as is usually the case, had most of the memorabilia.

Neither my father or my aunt talked about their childhood. I do remember my Nan as she was living with us for a time. She was involved in two separate car crashes and on both occasions broke her hips.

After the second crash she couldn't walk and had to wear callipers.

My dad had to carry her up and down the stairs from her bedroom to the lounge.

After the recent breakthrough with my other grandfather, I ain't giving up :-D

I remember reading this and seeing Janey working ... as she did for many threads

and for me ... She led the hunt for my Fathers origins ... on a thread of some 247

posts and he was found ( he changed his name on marriage to my father )

This is genealogy ... And what got me hooked ....

I am lucky with most of my history especially the direct lines back. Not hard with my mothers with all the inter marrying but some of the cousins disappear.. there was not the necessity to keep records here in the early days.. if you lived too far away or it was during lamb birthing time your birth did not get registered.. and sometimes they would forget about registering a death as well. They were all too busy being pioneers in a new country.

I found my grandfather's sister's death in a church gazette.. all because she was sadly missed .. she used to play the piano in church and the minister talked about her poor arthritic hands and her perseverance.

You never know: perhaps there is someone like my cousin waiting to be found.

I think that as usual the female members of the family are 'custodians' of the records.

My cousin's mother was my father's sister and kept most of the photo's etc. I never knew about this until we re-established contact very recently.

Alas, there were no papers or records relating to my grandfather's origins.

My grandmother was the artist in our family, I would love to know where a lot of her paintings went and a lot of her other stuff as well. I have a couple of them and some painting on glass that she did. She died six weeks before her 29th Birthday. Not even my mother's generation knew her... when I was small she was this big photo on my grandfather's wall.

Hello Persie, how are you.

my latest avatar is a picture of my grandfather and as the scanned version my cousin sent has "In memoriam" written on it I assume that it was take fairly close to the time he died, which was in 1930 aged 70.

Glad you liked the postcard, and the message. I now know that I am trying to find a person, not a phantom :-)
