My GGGm Mary Morris is on 1881 Census RG11Folio5311/74 Pg7.By 1891 only her daughter Elizabeth Morris is there in 2 Gilfach Cynon Merthyr Tydfil.Presumably both her parents died.I believe I have her fathers death certificate the occupation and the age is right.Although the address is slightly different and the informant was his brother.I had sent for a death certificate for her mother, this morning a very kind lady from the registry office rang to check some details and its not my Mary Morris.Question is where do I go from here or do I give up?

No, ...don't give up.
It's not easy with these common Welsh names I know. I'm chasing a Hannah Davies, ... and I'm spoilt for choice, ..Lol

If you are fairly sure on the husband's death certificate, could you use that information to find a burial for him and maybe find his wife buried there too. The cemetery record should give her date of burial / death and hopefully you could then buy the correct certificate.
Have you considered that the mother could have remarried?
We've found some really unexpected marriages of older people who've been widowed.

John

John Report 17 Sep 2008 13:00

I know her maiden name was Evans. They were already in Merthyr In 1871.We dont know whether they came up as children with their parents or as a young married couple from Carmarthenshire.

Thanks for all that Barbara.Your ideas fit with mine. My doubts about certificates there were no tie ups or real leads. If I have got the right death certificate his brother was called William living in 22 Plymouth street Merthyr. Is it really likely i can find anymore or is that the end of this particular trail?

If you think the marriage index posted is the one then this cert should give fathers names to help confirm them with parents in censuses
