Is this the family in 1881: |
|||
|
Dea | Report | 5 Jul 2008 16:44 |
Yes Potty - that is the one - and you will note that Thomas and John were born before Mark married Margaret |

If they were married in January 1871 they should be together on the 1871 census, assuming they were in the country. Given Margaret's surname, I wonder if she was Irish. They could have returned to Ireland. Maybe she died there? |

Oops - please bear with me - I have changed computers and have obviously 'lost' some info off my Family Tree Programme - I will look up from my back -up. |

Looks like Margaret was off the scene by 1876 going by the mother's name on these baptisms: |

Mark's son's marriage proving he had changed his name. Wonder why he's not recorded as Fenton? Doesn't answer your query though :-S |

When Elizabeth Ellen Fenton married William Acton 29/9/1894 she named her father as Mark Fenton, stonemason. They were with John Fenton in 1901 - it looks like Mark died as Fenton in 1896? |

William/Elizabeth Acton were witnesses when Mark Fenton (21) married on 18/11/1899 to Alice Maycox. Mark also named his father as Mark fenton, stonemason (did not state deceased though) |

Looks like Elizabeth Ellen and an older child were christened with mother named as Jane - so Margaret must have been off the scene earlier than originally thought. |

Thanks all - do you know that in all these years I had never even considered that John and Thomas may have 'belonged' to Jane - It just shows what fresh eyes can bring. :-0 :-D |

Dea, do you actually have a copy of the marriage certificate for Mark/Margaret? Also where did the name for Jane come from - was it one of the children's birth certificates? |
