This is a family that perhaps came originally from Ireland - but not definite. I'm looking for Mary, born about 1897. She was a general domestic servant, living in Ernest Street, Mile End Old Town whilst pregnant. She was unmarried, and gave birth in Mile End Old Town Workhouse Infirmary. In the admission/discharge register her surname appears as Knelly. However, when she registered the birth of her daughter, Mary May, in March 1921, she gave their surname as Knell. (The surname of Pervical (assumed to be Percival) was associated with those living at her home/working address, and also with her admission for the birth). I know what happened to the baby eventually, but not the mother, Mary - but it looks as if they were separated quite early on. I should very much like to know the mother's history, especially where she came from and particularly, the correct spelling of her surname at birth. Can anyone help, please! |
