My grandfather is Joseph my grandmother is Margaret but without spending another £14.00 on marriage cert copies is there any other way of checking her maiden name.I have checked free bmd for mothers maiden name when registering birth but does not state it by 1895 her youngest (my Dad) |

Well, it's only £7 for a cert - why not send off for your father's birth cert? At least you know his date of birth and where born and that will show his mum's maiden name. |

Well it should do. They normally state father's name and occupation plus mother's maiden name. |

you really do need to send for your father's birth certificate. Other than finding all the details in a baptism record if you knew where he was baptised it is the only certain way of proving his mother's name. |

The actual b.cert shows the mother's names - it's just not shown in the index back then, and it's the index you're searching in. |

Mary....Although you say Mary E. was the eldest...How do you know that...was the info. taken from the 1891 Census...? If so dont rely on that being accurate children can be born and have died in the interim periods... |
