I'm asking for more help as I have hit another brick wall (metaphorically speaking!) Thanks once again to those who helped me last night!
I am looking for information concerning my Great grandfather,, Sadly I have very little to go on..
He appears on my granfather's birth certificate in 1914 as Arthur Jackson ~ Rullyman ~ 100 Egton Street Hull Yorkshire
He married (although I can't find evidence) Freda E Burgess.
My grandfather claimed that he was hit and killed by a train.. Freda went on to marry a Francis Abson.
If anyone can give me any help or tell me where to look I would be greatly appreciative!

What was your grandfather's name ? Was his surname Jackson ?

Is this him ?

Yep that is him.. Ralph William Jackson.. Sculcoates.. Before he died some of his half brothers and sisters got in touch with him.. We knew that Freda married again but haven't been able to find any information about Arthur.. At one point we didn't even think that Arthur and Freda had married.
Thanks for having a look for me.

Zoe Report 21 Mar 2010 18:45

Ann, That sounds quite promising.. I know it's impossible to be certain but the Arthur Jackson you found was a drayman and on my grandfather's birth certificate it lists Arthur as being a rullyman.. i think these two jobs are very similiar.
I think i will have to go with a pinch of estimated guess work as nobody in my family knows anything about him!

Ralph's birth registration shows father's surname as Jackson and mother's maiden surname as Burgess, which would mean that she didn't marry Arthur Jackson, because she married again as Freda E Burgess.

I can't find her on the 1911 census. Have you any idea where she was born and when ?

Do you have her marriage cert to Francis Absom?

It would appear that she wasn't married before as she should have married in the name Jackson.

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005
Name: Freda E Abson
Death Registration Month/Year: 1934
Age at death (estimated): 43
Registration district: Goole
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding
Volume: 9c
Page: 1039

which means she was born about 1891

Zoe

We have often wondered about that.. On the birth certificate it lists her as Freda Jackson, formerly Burgess..
I know very little I am afraid.. I think her middle name was Emily but apart from that, nothing!

There is this death which could be Arthur but it's after her marriage.

Zoe,

Had a look at the original doc of the Arthur/Freda 1911 census, says married under 1 year, checked on BMD and looks like this Freda may be msn HEBDEN

This is possibly the Arthur Jackson whose death I found in 1911 census but I don't have a subscription to see his occupation and household.

Hi Ann, Did you have any luck?
I have since been told that Freda placed my grandfather into an orphanage as she couldn't make enough money to look after them both. Not sure if I could trace that line of enquiry... Zoe

Attempting to make progress tracing family tree after a break. I can't seem to find a birth registration for Freda Emily Burgess born around 1891. Can anyone shed any light?

ErikaH Report 28 Dec 2013 22:51

'ms' is Scottish.........in England/Wales the abbreviation is MN.........and before you ask, it means maiden name.

Where have you looked for the birth?

Have you obtained her marriage cert......to find out her father's name (if she knew him)?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 28 Dec 2013 22:57

Freda was not really a Victorian name............have you considered that her birth might be registered as Winifred?

There is nothing on freebmd.....nor can I see her in 1911.

Perhaps she was born somewhere other than England/Wales?

ErikaH Report 28 Dec 2013 23:01

This is the probable marriage of the couple posted some time ago from 1911 census...so you can discount that, as indicated by Ann.
