Hi all, I hope you can help. I know Thamzin Hawkins( b 1825 Ashbrittle) married Henry Stone( b 1828 Langford) abt 1850, they had several children but im interested in her first born,James . He was born abt 1848 Hochworthy Devon.I know very little about him but believe he married Alice Cameron Hone in Madras in 1877. They had a son Ernest b Madras 1883.What was he doing in madras ?Thamzin,s parents were William Hawkins b 1793 Ash and Mary Bailey. As James was born before his mother married what name did he assume ? Hawkins or Stone. Any info on this family would be wounderful. |

Yes I believe he was a Rev in India and died in Kent in 1918. But his name has changed again to Stone, and it looks like he was born James Hawkins. |

Have you looked at a military connection - there was a British military/naval base in Madras, which could explain why he was there? |
