My ancestor Ritson Frears lived at Muncaster and Ravenglass. In 1830 he sailed to Bermuda with his wife and son to work as a carpenter at the Royal Naval Dockyards, returning in 1841 to Cumberland. What govt. scheme or whatever could have taken a young craftsman from the wilds of Cumberland to Bermuda at that time? |
