Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find the date of birth for my grandfather, he died in 1962 in Plymouth,Devon aged 87. I have looked throuth the registers from 1865-1896 but cannot find anything! Any idea's out there.

Is Henry the surname or his middle name?

No death registered in that name in Plymouth in 1962

It was not compulsory to register births until 1875 so if he was born 1874 then quite simply you might not find a birth

Might help to look at his marriage to confirm his name - he wouldn't be the first to be quite flexible with what he called himself!! What was your grandmother's name and when/where did they marry, if you know? With luck you will get his father's name which might help a bit, and also where he lived (though this isn't necessarily a big help!)

To all the people who answered my query in trying to find my grandfather Arthur Henry, I owe you all an appology I forgot to add his surname which was Foote. I am still interested in his date of birth and where he came from. He died in Plymouth in 1962 aged 87, I have checked the B/D/M but cannot find anything. I have talked to close relatives but nobody is sure where he was born.

I just KNEW it !!!!

That's why I left it as I truly believed it would turn out to be Arthur Henry .. 'Something' !!

After checking the image they say they have been married 11 yrs.

1911 he says he is born Wincanton,same in 1901 where he is Harry, with wife Jane and baby Kathleen,known as Kate,in Plymouth
same birth place in 1891,and 1881 and a little sister Kate with them

Bet that Kate turns out to be another Kathleen.
I think he was born Harry myself and changed his name.
But I am more than willing to be proved wrong ......
