finding info about adoptions in 1930's

Can anyone advise me how i can begin looking for the adoption details of my aunt Joan Davies who was born on 12/9/1931. She found out she was adopted late in life and knows nothing about her birth parents, or where she came from. Her adoptive parents are deceased. All she has been told is her adoptive parents went to London just before her adoption. so there may be a connection there. Not a lot to go on unfortunately. can anyone suggest how she begins her research. Any help would be gratefully recieved. Thanks
