Tom Cockroft left Bradford, Yorkshire early 1900's to live in Pennysylvania, USA. He worked on the railways and was believed to have a daughter. His dad was Frank and sister was Sarah (amongst other siblings) Is there anybody out there(!) with any further info?

If you read a few threads on the board (not just your surname board, but the entire TTF board), you'll see the chances of anyone reading having information are extremely slim to nil. ;)

Others here can often *find* information. It happens dozens of times daily.

It helps if you give all the info you have. His year and place of birth, for starters. Have you looked for him in US censuses at all? Even without subscribing to Ancestry.com, you can often find useful info.

And was his name actually Thomas?

That one consistently shows in censuses with the late-1880s birthdate, so he seems perhaps unlikely.

In 1910 there's a Thomas in Philadelphia dob c1871 with son Harry dob c1901 and wife Kathryn dob c1878, but that's all I can see by tricking the search engine. ;)

Hi Paul, got your PM, you're quite welcome -- but please always reply in the thread (as we all have done) -- the purple Reply button up top.

That way we don't have to go hunting for the thread ... and you only have to say it once. ;)

Huh, Maureen! Figure they're related? ;)

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 14 Jul 2010 18:12

JC-Nah,I think Paul's probably nice. Although I didn't get a PM. Sob.

Just kidding,Paul!!! I really don't want one!!!!!!!

But what about this Tom of yours? When was he born? I still keep coming up with the one whose father was Frank.

Maureen

Nono, Maureen, I meant the two Toms, not Paul and the minx!!!

I think Paul is a little confused about his Toms maybe, though.

Paul, do not send Maureen a PM or she will smite you (but do be nice to her here!) -- we hate PMs. ;)

Many thanks to all of you for your kind help. I did make a mistake of Toms fathers name, he was Frank, not George! Maybe one day I might be as knowledgeable as you lot and learn to use the system!

Maureen, you're a star! I can confirm Tom's family and adress details are correct as you have them listed at 13 Washington Street, Bradford.

So The 1st Tom on the list may not be correct, but it would be nice to see the right one's passenger list.

I have been told for sure he worked on the railways, so this all sounds correct.

Cheers, m'dears.

So the Tom who was aged 1 in the 1891 census, with father Frank, is yours. ?

That means the Tom in the US censuses born 1889ish (not the one born 1876ish) is in all likelihood yours.

So he is in Bradford, PA, in 1930 -- I can find that w/o having a paid subscription -- as Cockroff. And by searching for all people in Bradford, PA, in 1930, named Cockcroff with parents Thomas and Lula, we get a list of their children:

http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=6224&enc=1

Frank K Cockcroff 1911
Charles H Cockroff 1913
Harry H Cockcroff 1917
Ellen C Cockroff 1924
Jane L Cockroff 1927

So there's two more than you had in 1920.

It is rather interesting that they gravitated to a place called Bradford on the other side of the ocean, isn't it?

Since he presumably travelled to the US by himself, it wouldn't likely have been before 1905. He had a child born by 1911.

These are two possibilities for his travel:

COCKROFT T dob Unknown Male 1907 Liverpool USA Boston
COCKROFT Thos Adult Male 1904 Liverpool USA New York

there are also these:

COCKROFT dob Unknown Male 1907 Liverpool USA Boston
COCKROFT dob Unknown Male 1907 Liverpool USA Boston

PS Anyone have home remedies for mosquito bites??

Hi Maureen

I suffer allergic reactions to them (in oz) and have tried everything suggested! My recommendation would be to keep the antihistamines in stock and as soon as you know you have been bit - take them! At least it helps with the itching and starts reducing the swellings (unfortunately doesnt get rid of the huge blisters :-(
Hope you're not suffering too much!
