Robert Bentley Police Sergeant Robert Bentley with collegues Sergeant Tucker and PC Choate was shot dead on duty in Houndsditch London on 16th December 1910. Their deaths led to the siege of Sidney Street. The whole country mourned their deaths and Edward V11 was represented at their funeral in St Paul's cathedral. Robert was my great great uncle married to my great grandfather's sister Louisa Goddard from Folkestone. Robert died on their ninth wedding anniversary and there second child Robert Eric Bentley was born a few days later. The baby died whilst still a toddler. Louisa was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen who had no children. If you relate to Robert Bentley or the other two officers I have many documents that I would be happy to share. If you are a Goddard and recognise the story please make contactwe are probably related. |
