It certainly occurred to me too Christine -- the Jewish community being relatively smaller and more interconnected than the broader public the victims came from.

Maybe Anna can let us know on that score when she next ploughs her way through this thread. ;)

sorry missed that one.

Christine - re Jewish victims / synagogue.

If you have a look at the BGTD site, you'll see that a local Rabbi and congregation have been very involved in the effort

http://www.stairwaytoheavenmemorial.org/index.html

"Fr. Alan Green conducted a wonderful Service, which was so comforting and uplifting. He was assisted by Rabbi Amanda Golby who read a prayer and blessing in Hebrew and English for the many Jewish families that were present. " etc.

I'm hoping we can assume that the congregation has made every effort it could.

I've missed something.

Quoy, Victoria's list on page 9 has you working on the CHANDLERS.

Did I miss the results? -- sorted, found it on page 7. Why did nobody tell me the page 1 list didn't reflect it?!?

PLEASE let me know if any of your outcomes aren't shown on page 1.

I have still not been able to track down relatives for the Tarbucks. PM just received from Vanessa. Not her Lousa. She has Louisa R.

A thought did occur to me. That area has a large Jewish community. I heard a few weeks ago about a Jewish genealogy site. I wonder if the synagogue holds records of our victims.

edit - realized Quoy did them.

Okay you guys, stop sending me PMs!!!

You know how we hate PMs here. ;)

For individual names, post the updates (edit your original post about the name) in the thread here. If I miss it, post a new message to poke me with it.

I'll add the Charlotte Chapman info to the list -- but do update your post about her, Jeanette!

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 15 Mar 2009 21:49

Quoy - thanks for the PM - I've added Eileen Bass to the master list on page 1. Apparently when I was copying the names from the lists at the memorial site, using the surname list in Anna's very first post to find them, I missed her altogether.

It's possible I did include people whose rellies are not "missing", since I just took every name with a matching surname. I think Anna has checked it out now though.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 15 Mar 2009 21:44

Pleeeeeease check the list on page 1 and let me know if anything is missing. I want to try somebody else, but I hesitate lest I'm out of date. ;)

Quoy - I will wait for news on matches for Charlotte Chapman.

The TARBUCKS are still unfound?

The ROCHES have defeated us? I'm going to take a stab at them.

Edmund Roche and Rhoda Smith had only the two kids. Their real names may help ...

Mary J Roche Jul Aug Sep 1933 Finsbury Greater London
Edmund J Roche Jan Feb Mar 1936 Stepney Greater London

I'll PM Victoria those details (not sure what she's already been sent) and we'll write them off for trees (no Roche matches, too many possible Rhoda Smiths for now).

PROCEDURE Q&As
_____________________________________________________________

I think a couple of us are confused and getting more confused. ;)

Initially, the idea was to find victims' rellies via tree searches, send them PMs with info, and ask that they contact Anna.

Now it seems that we're asking them to contact BGTD1943.

My understanding of the GR system is that people who do not have paid subs can't initiate contacts. So they would be unable to come to this thread and contact BGTD1943 by clicking on the name. ... Yes, I just tested this by signing out in another window, and registering a free account. When I tried to send myself a message via this thread, and a message via a tree search for someone in my tree, I was told I had to upgrade in both cases.

So -- for anyone without a paid sub, they will not be able to get tree access by sending a message to BGTD1943. They can *reply* to messages, but not initiate contact.

The way for them to access the BGTD1943 tree will be by Victoria initiating the contact, by finding the match on a tree search.

So what we should be doing, I think, is this.
_____________________________________________________________

Each of us send the initial contact message when we find a match for a victim or rellie (and include Anna's email so direct contact can be made directly with the Trust).

Tell the person that if they reply to us we will arrange for the tree to be opened to them so they can check the info.

If a reply is received, tell Victoria what the matching name is, and what the GR member's name and account number is. Victoria can then find the match and send a PM opening the tree to them.

It will then be up to the individual whether to proceed, by contacting BGTD1943 again or contacting Anna or the Trust directly.

Victoria will also be able to enter the details of the contact in her spreadsheet (message sent, reply received, tree opened ...).
_____________________________________________________________

Does that sound about right?

UPDATED LIST ON PAGE ONE

Please check it to see whether I've missed anything.

There were a couple of posts with some chatter I wasn't quite able to figure out, i.e. whether the person had been found / whether a tree had been found. ;)

I've just received a reply from Sarah Taylor's grandaughter confirming she was Sarah Newton's mother.

Tracey - I should have posted my work, I knew it. ;)

The Leonard J Hawley you found marrying is the *other* Leonard J Hawley, I think:

Births Mar 1879
Hawley Leonard John
Wandsworth 1d 731
- married 1912 in Wandsworth.

I found "our" LJH in the 1881 and sent details to Victoria:

parents
William Hawley c1848
Emma Ann Hammerton c 1851

siblings
Mahala Sarah A Hawley, Mile End, 1876
William Henry Hawley, Mile End, 1880

... I'm now seeing a marriage for the sister, so will pursue that a bit.

>> Victoria - cancel that wedding if you would. ;) And the kiddies.

I have had a thought on those like i have with no spousal data, it might be worth calling the district library and getting a manual electoral roll check done to see whom was also living at the address. All those over 18 should be listed. (providing the roll was taken that year)

ELECTORAL ROLL

Deborah and Tracey have both told me they have Electoral Roll access.

I would suggest that if a dead end is encountered on someone who is most probably living, the person with that victim give one of them a shout and ask for a lookup.

The address/telephone info would have to be sent directly to Anna so the Trust could contact the person, I would think.

in my case, it was the very young son of a victim, whom I found on the 2002-2008 ER - but I did then find his name in two trees here, and sent PMs.

However, I can't find him in current telephone listings at BT on line. So while waiting to hear back from the tree contacts, I'll request an ER lookup so the address can be sent to Anna.
