Regaring the Mead's
George snr and George jnr appear on the found list
from the CWGC info Florence = wife of George Kenneth and Maureen children of George and Florence
living at 7 Peary Place Roman rd
question to Ann - the 2 George's that you have found are they the same Mead family as above?

I think it likely that they were the same family, looking at the ages, I think it is 3 generations going down the shelter together. Anna

also the entrance to the Bethnal Green tube station where the crush happened was the Roman Road entrance. Many locals just went down there every night instead of waiting for the warning to go off and have to get out of bed they settled down in the unfinished tube station, got the best pitch etc and that's where they stayed for the night. Part of the cause of the crush was that a lady fell at the bottom of the steps, she was carrying a baby and because the station hadn't been finished there was no centre rail on the stairs and with the blackout people couldn't see the others falling and just kept pushing down inpanic because there were unusual guns firing (new ones being test in Victoria Park, it wasn't bombs as they thought at all) Tragic.

I have a suggestion
If we create a "Bethnal Green Tube Disaster" tree on GR and we all put the info we find into it GR can then look for Hot Matches
Ann can you do that ??
EvieBeavie - the info from the CWGC site is useful as it has the ages and , relatives and addresses on essential if we are to match the right families.

There was an article in the Darford times but I am guessing you know about this one
Now after her death, daughter Sandra Scotting is trying to find survivors and relatives of the WWII tragedy which left 173 dead, including her grandmother and two-year-old cousin, Barry.

Yes, Sandra Scotting is the secretary of the charity raising funds for the memorial and she gave me the list to sort and research. I will join in your search but it will have to wait until tomorrow I'm afraid, I really must get some sleep (the pc keeps dragging me back to see what you've discovered).
Were you asking me if I can put a Bethnal Green Disaster tree on here Victoria? If I can I will, any tips gratfully received. Although I have the startings of my own tree I'm a novice on GR.
Thanks again girls.x

Victoria - yes, I did figure that out right away, that's how I found more on my list, from the wife's name in one, e.g.
I don't know how one would create a BGTD tree here. The people aren't related! We could just create one mythical ancestor (Bethnalgreentube Disaster?) and add everybody on the list as a child??

Anna, you're left with the job of reading the thread for the finds.
I've marked mine with >>> when I've found an obvious or probable match in trees.
Then you get to send messages to the people with the match! Or ... should we take on the job of contacting the people we find with matches for our names, and sending them the URL for this thread and for the website, and your email address?
I'm thinking you're going to say "yes" ...

A BIG YES!!!
Evie, Victoria or anyone else for that matter, if you're up for doing the contacting that's great, anything is gratefully accepted as I'm also doing other things for the charity too to try to help Sandra who has to do so much.
Neither of us is grumbling but it has to fit around my job too (and we're in the middle of buying a house in Scotland and setting up a business but that's another story!)
I'll play 'catch up' tomorrow and see where I can dive in but anything you're willing to do in the meantime is so appreciated.
Now, I really and truly am off to bed before I drop where I sit. Goodnight.x

If we create the tree in GR we would have to have a Bethnal Green Mum and Dad as we don't seem to be able to add unrelated people.
In the meantime I'm putting my info into my own family tree software and can download gedcom when required.
I can add unrelated people in my sofware so what I will do is put EVERYONE's name and then when we load it into GR people can then add the info on the people that they have found
I will do this NOW

Anna, when you come back -- PM us your email address and I'll make a start.
This is the first message I'm sending (once I get your email address), if anybody just wants to use it as a template:
SAMPLE MESSAGE TO GR MEMBER WITH A VICTIM IN HIS/HER TREE
Re: Elizabeth Bendon (1904)
Hello [name]. I'm writing about a project that is being discussed here at GenesReunited.
There is an effort underway to find family of people who died in the 1943 Bethnal Green Tube Disaster.
http://www.stairwaytoheavenmemorial.org/
That Elizabeth Bendon is one of the people for whom there is no family known to the memorial organizers. Her entry at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site is here:
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=3125160
The discussion here at GenesReunited is in this thread on the discussion boards:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1134367
If you have a paid subscription to GenesReunited you can post in that thread and we would all be delighted to see what you can tell. If not, I would be happy to pass on any info you send by posting it there.
Anna, the person who posted the information, would love to hear from you if that is your Elizabeth Bendon. You can reach her at this email address:
Thanks!

Victoria, that sounds great. If I only understood it. Believe it or not, I have never attempted to use family tree software.
So ... I'll just be able to give you my info and you'll put it in the tree? ;)

Good idea -- start off with the CWGC entry for the person(s) you're doing!
Glad to see you on board, Christine. I think we're all going to need honourable mention on this memorial. ;)

Hang on, Christine, the Seabrooks aren't on the list! They're *found* -- one of their family members is an organizer of the memorial.
Now, go back to the list I put on page one -- victims for whom there is no known family.
Pick a name/family. Then, the idea is to see whether there are matches in trees at GR. A quick search right away might turn one up, but for married women, for instance, it may be necessary to go find the marriage, or her child's birth, if a child was also killed, to find her birth surname.

Back to my 5 names -- a question, Anna.
Emily Berger 57
She isn't listed by the CWGC. I also tried Burger. And I tried as non-civilian (there may have been members of military groups in the crowd?)
Any other info to find her with?

Do you want me to send a message to Doreen?

Ah, that's why I was saying we should ignore that second list of Anna's (the second list on page 2). I hadn't even noticed the Seabrooks were on there.
I composed my list on page 1 by taking the surnames from Anna's original post:
Asser, Baker, Bass, Berger, Bendon, Bosworth, Boxer, Brooks, Chandler, Chapman, Collett, Court, Day, Dongrey, Ellam, Emery, Ewett, Fletcher, Forbes, French, Geary, Hales, Hammond, Hawley, Hayman, Higginson, Hillier, Hiscocke, Johns, Korobenic, Lawson, Leggett, Lewis, Loftus, Mason, Mathers, Mead, Morris, Myers, Newman, Newton, Nixon, Papworth, Poole, Pusey, Raulinaitis, Reynolds, Riddell, Roche, Sear, Smith, Stretch, Tarbuck, Taylor, Thompson, Tilbury, Trayling, Trice, Vann, Vanner, Warrington, Welch, Whitehead, Wilson.
and getting the details of the individuals from the memorial website.
So I think we should stick with them, the ones with no known family, for now.
Forgive my own thickitude, but who's Doreen? Must be the person with the Seabrooks in her tree? (I can answer my own question: yes) Sure, why not? She may know all about the memorial, she may know nothing at all and be pleased to hear!
I think we should both go to sleep now. ;)
